Iván Márquez is the new central defender of NEC. The 27-year-old Spaniard is taken over by the Nijmegen owners from Cracovia, Poland, where he had another contract until mid-2022.
NEC is looking for new central defenders and has found a first solution to that problem with Márquez. The Spaniard has highest level experience in Poland with Korona Kielce and Cracovia and played in his homeland for the second teams of clubs such as Valencia, Atlético Madrid and Málaga. He was also trained at the last club.
After right back Ilias Bronkhorst, the 1 meter 91 long stopper is the first defensive asset for technical director Ted van Leeuwen and NEC, but there will be more players coming to De Goffert. Due to the severe injury to Captain Rens van Eijden, Rogier Meijer, the clubs practice master, has only the power to use Cas Odenthal as a pure central defender.
The transfer from Márquez, which signs for two years, will soon be followed up. Rodrigo Guth, a Brazilian central defender under contract with Atalanta, is most likely to be rented from La Dea. The announcement of his switch seems to be a matter of time.
