‘Surprise in the works: Van Bommel is on his way to Overmars’ club

Mark van Bommel seems to be continuing his career in the Belgian competition. The 45-year-old trainer from Maasbracht is in the interest of KRC Genk, but is in pole position to become the new head coach of FC Antwerp, the club where Marc Overmars is technical director. The Belgian club made Van Bommel a two-year offer.
Het Nieuwsblad and De Cceit report this. Antwerp is hopeful that it can persuade Van Bommel to sign on De Bouil. The negotiations are advanced, according to the Belgian newspaper. At the intercession of Overmars, Van Bommel must make the switch to Antwerp. The former was introduced as technical director two months ago, after he left Ajax in January because of cross-border behavior.
Van Bommel is about to embark on his third training course at the highest level. He was a PSV trainer for over a year, with whom he grabbed just off the league title in his first year. Van Bommel was set aside in his second year and then left for VfL Wolfsburg. At the Bundesliga club, he started out weak, retreated well, only to be fired. After Van Bommels departure, Wolfsburg did not do much better.
