Sjaak Swart responded to the fuss surrounding the title party of Ajax Monday evening at Op1. Mister Ajax also had his reservations, but showed understanding for the supporters who wanted to celebrate the 35th championship.
Swart was present in the championship duel with FC Emmen and didnt get back in his Fiat long afterwards. However, the crowded party outside the Johan Cruijff Arena continued for a while, to the outrage of many. “Its not good, but I do think: those supporters have had nothing all year long,” he says at Op1. “Then Ajax becomes champion. And they had arranged it well, with all fences and things. For if these people had gone into town, we would have been much further away from home.”
The municipality of Amsterdam had already issued an emergency regulation in advance for the Leidseplein area, in order to avoid parties of Ajax fans in the city centre. “You can choose: either the whole city to the balls or this,” says Swart. “Theres nothing else on it.”
At the end of the party there was talk of a spontaneous action: the fans gathered outside the stadium and the players and staff members celebrated the party. “Given the huge amount of fans gathered outside, this was probably better than forcing players to stay inside and ignore the supporters,” spokesman Miel Brinkhuis announced.
It was too busy yesterday celebrating the championship of Ajax. The police decided not to act. Former professional footballer at Ajax @Sjaak_Swart8: “You can choose, whether the whole city to the balls, or this.” pic.twitter.com/liwwutj7si
