After the punishment against Napoli, Dusan Tadic does not want to point too much to his new position at Ajax. The 33-year-old captain believes that all players of the Amsterdammers should look in the mirror.
Since the arrival of Steven Bergwijn, Tadic has been banned at Ajax to the right flank. “Ive had good matches and bad matches. Of course, there are a lot of new players and Im playing in a different position, but I dont want to look for excuses. We need automatisms and we need to find each other to play according to our qualities. We have to look in the mirror and try to get up,” he says at Ziggo Sport after the hard defeat in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Does Tadic like himself better from the left? “Ive played there the most in the past four years, but thats not for me to decide. Of course, thats what its about when you lose, but the most important thing is that the team plays well. I think we need to go back to basics at difficult times like this. We faced the goals very easily today. Of course, they have a good team, but so do we. We just didnt show that.”
The Serbian routine also heard that Ajax fans were whistling. “We know that Ajax is a big club, so this is normal. No one is happy about this. When we lose, we ourselves are the first to be critical. This is very painful for everyone who loves Ajax. But we have to analyse what went wrong and solve the problems. The season is still long.”
Tadic acknowledges that his red card came somewhat out of frustration. “If youre 1-5 behind and they play the ball around. Its not like you want to hit someone, but… I tried to protect the ball with my arms.”
