The Taliban allowed two hundred people, including Americans, to leave Afghanistan. An American official, who wants to remain anonymous, reports that evacuees will be allowed to depart on charter flights from the international airport of the Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday.
The Taliban have been pressured in recent days to let go particularly Americans who wanted to leave the country. US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said earlier this week during a press conference from Qatar that there were about 100 more Americans in Afghanistan who want to leave. “We are doing everything we can to ensure charter flights leave Kabul,” said Blinken.
Since the Taliban took Kabul, countries, including the US and the Netherlands, have been evacuating people for a while. All in all, more than 120,000 people were evacuated. Since the mission ended, there have been concerns about the fate of those left behind in Afghanistan. However, four Americans managed to leave the country on Monday by crossing the border to a neighbouring country with the Taliban permission.
