Erik ten Hag is overjoyed with the cup win in De Kuip. The ‘insatiable‘ trainer led Ajax Sunday evening to the fourth prize under his leadership.
Ten Hag is proud, after Ajax was kicked out of the Europa League by AS Roma on Thursday. It took a while before he appeared at ESPN, because he first wanted to celebrate the party with his players. “Prizes should be celebrated, we were able to do that together with the team,” he laughs. “Unfortunately it wasn‘t with the fans, but we’re overjoyed with it.”
For Ten Hag it is his fourth prize as Ajax trainer: twice the KNVB Cup, once the national title and the Johan Cruijff Schaal. “As far as prices are concerned, I‘m insatiable, it’s never enough. If you no longer feel the hunt for that, you have to stop.” It was simply not against Vitesse. “But this is just very handsome. You often see that teams that play Thursday lose the weekend after. I am proud of the character we have shown.”
Compliments are for matchwinner and Ryan Gravenberch, but Ten Hag is especially lauded about Antony. “He was unprecedented. Are there people who doubt him? I don‘t agree with that. At home against Roma, he also played excellent, but then the goal didn’t fall. He created four chances and had great actions. He did exactly what we expect of him.”
