Erik ten Hag looks forward to the role of Steven Berghuis. The attacker has again been put on ‘ten’ against Sporting Portugal, just like PEC Zwolle.
“We think he can get freedom with a passer, provided he and the midfield run well,” says Ten Hag to RTL7. “It‘ll show how fast he can pick it up. At Champions League level, things are certainly asked defensively. He has to take a number of steps in that. Picking position is a little different from what he was used to. Saturday night (against PEC Zwolle, ed.) he did a great job in the first half.”
Ten Hag believes Ajax should “play his own game stoically.” “High pressure and be good at the ball. Then you have a good chance of winning this match. You’re not going to create a lot, that‘s last year’s lesson. We had the first big chance every game. That must be in.”
