Erik ten Hag still has every confidence in a good outcome for Ajax, despite a ‘annoying‘ home defeat against AS Roma. The diptych is certainly not yet decided, emphasises Ten Hag.
“This is very annoying. We did not experience it for a while, because it has been a while since we lost (December 2020, red.). Of course it hurts, but you have to live with it. We had the game in our hands, we could make the 2-0, but suddenly the race tilted”, says Ten Hag at RTL7.
Ten Hag hasn‘t given up yet. “We are only half, we have seen that we can go along with their level, impose our will on them and get ahead. It offers perspective, but it will be tough.”
Dusan Tadic missed a penalty for Ajax at a 1-0 head start, but Ten Hag doesn’t blame him. “He‘s an expert. It’s no certainty, but with him it is. This time he misses him, it runs the game and that‘s a pity.”
Kjell Sharpen is protected by Ten Hag. The goalkeeper went wrong with the equator. “That is inherent in football, a sport of mistakes. I can live with the way we played here. That’s how we need to move on. If you lose at home by 1-2 it won‘t be easy, but it’s not lost yet.”
