Tens of thousands of Israelis take to the streets again against Prime Minister Netanyahu

thousands of people are demonstrating against Prime Minister Netanyahu. According to Israeli media, more than 20,000 people have gathered in front of the prime minister‘s residence in Jerusalem alone. In Tel Aviv demonstrators are blocking streets around Rabin Square. There are also demonstrators on more than 300 bridges and large intersections throughout the country and at Netanyahu’s private residence in the coastal town of Caesarea.

Signs the protesters have with them say “Liar-yahu” and “Liar Netanyahu, go home.” In previous protests, the police and demonstrators clashed and at least thirty people were arrested, now there doesn’t seem to be any unrest.

The police allowed the protest for the time being and allowed a protest march in Jerusalem, for which no permission had been granted, to go ahead. However, musical instruments and other noisy items were confiscated.

Corruption and corona

In addition to the rise in corruption, there is also more and more criticism of Netanyahu’s corona approach. Israel initially managed to bring the corona virus under control, but easing it led to a new peak in the number of infections. Unemployment in Israel has risen to more than 20 percent.
