Terraces on Leidseplein remain closed: ‘We want to discourage Ajax fans’

The municipality of Amsterdam has decided to keep the terraces on the Leidseplein closed on Sunday afternoon. The reason for this is the expected influx of Ajax fans.
The Ajacieds have one point enough against FC Emmen to become champion of the Netherlands for the 35th time and it is expected that many fans will want to celebrate this in the city centre. โ€œSupporters can celebrate quietly, but entrepreneurs don‘t want to take risks with regard to their furniture,โ€ says a spokesman for the hospitality association to DeccEit.
They expect, like the municipality of Amsterdam, that fans of Ajax will first come to the stadium to see the scale and then continue towards Leidseplein. โ€œWe are going to make as much preparations as possible to discourage people from coming,โ€ said Mayor Halsema earlier. โ€œAs a city, we want to make sure that we see how incredibly proud we are of the club, without leading to large crowds of people. How we’
re going to do that is another surprise.โ€
