Terrible night for PSV: final stage defeat, injuries Gakpo and Madueke

PSV has suffered a painful 1-2 defeat against AS Monaco. The match also causes trainer Roger Schmidt to the top performer against Ajax: Noni Madueke and Cody Gakpo fell out injured on Eindhoven side.
PSV started with two changes against Monaco. Armando Obispo was allowed to start at the centre of defence, because Olivier Boscagli took over the place of the suspended Ibrahim Sangaré. Carlos Vinícius also made his basic debut: Schmidt chose to have Eran Zahavi sit on the couch.
In the first quarter of the game, PSV was unable to create a danger in the 16th of Monaco. On the other hand, that was the case, which also gave rise to a goal: Myron Boadu, the PSV goalie Joël Drommel was the result of a long ball by Caio Henrique. It marked the first hit by the Dutchman in the Monaco shirt.

After Boadu‘s goal, PSV got better in the game. However, this did not result in a goal before the break, which caused the Eindhovenaren to go after the tea. After a break, PSV suffered a setback: after a sprint duel, it shot into Madueke’s hamstring, which immediately switched.
Not long after that, PSV managed to reach the same level. Vinícius took the ball in bad, giving Gakpo a chance to take out. The 22-year-old attacker had no doubt and gave Alexander Nübel a tough bang: 1-1, but five minutes later Gakpo had to change after landing unhappily on the ground in an air duel.

Despite the failure of Madueke and Gakpo, PSV still got opportunities in the final phase, which was also true for Monaco. The Monegasken still managed to score – unlike PSV – via substitute Sofiane Diop. As a result, the match ends in 1-2 for the visitors. PSV is now third in its Europa League poule, which would mean hibernation in the Conference League.

On Sunday, Schmidt and co. will have the chance to get their back in the top against Ajax. It will have to prove whether Madueke and Gakpo will be able to travel to Amsterdam in the coming days.
