Thanks to Cerny, FC Twente can still dream after a disastrous start in Florence

FC Twente can still dream of an adventure in Europe this season. Coach Ron Janss team had a hard time with Fiorentina in the Conference League playoffs, but Vaclav Cerny signed for an important Enschede hit: 2-1.
Twente had a disastrous start in Florence. After just a minute of play, Nicolás Gonzálex headed the home team ahead. Fiorentina was the parent party anyway and the Dutch visitors were hardly involved in the opening phase. The team of coach Ron Jans was sloppy and did not manage to play out under the Italian pressure.
After half an hour, Lars Unnerstal got away well. The German goalkeeper let run a free tap, but forgot that there was another attacker behind him. Fortunately, it fell short of a toe length. Not much later, Unnerstal was knocked after all. Joshua Brenet lost Sottil, and Cabral found him: 2-0. Not much later, that same Cabral shot into the side net and Robin Pröpper had to block a shot from him as well. Lars Unnerstall also had the opportunity to distinguish himself.
Twente had little opposition to this in the first half. Only a free kick by Michel Vlap disappeared right next to the goal. Jans therefore decided to intervene and brought Cerny, among others. This turned out to be an excellent move, because the Czech signed for the vitally important connection goal after 64 minutes. Gijs Smal provided the assist. As a result, Twente can still dream of the group phase of the Conference League. The return will be in Enschede next week.
