The Cock Book Series in Guinness Book of Records

The book series on Detective Jurriaan de Cock is included in the new edition of the Guinness Book of Records. The series, which now covers 89 volumes, is the longest-running detective series with the same protagonist in the world.

Writer Peter Rรถmer announced this Saturday in De Taalstaat on NPO Radio 1. Rรถmer took over the series when the original writer, Appie Baantjer, died in 2010. Baantjer wrote the first book about The Cock, A Noose for Bobby, in 1964.

The 89th book, The Cock and the Lonely Death, was published recently. Rรถmer is working on the ninetieth part in the series. More than seven million copies of the De Cock books have been sold.

In addition to the novels, De Cock has been immortalized over the past few decades in a successful series, a cinema film and various plays.
