The Eredivisie has begun: William II disappoints and goes under in Friesland

The first frontrunner of the new season is known. An excellent playing sc Heerenveen beats Willem II 2-0 and is therefore at least an hour list leader in the Eredivisie.

With Henk Veerman as captain and Joey Veerman as playmaker, Heerenveen started the match energetically. The first quarter of the game was still about probing, but after twenty minutes that was all over. That was thanks to Lucas Woudenberg. The left back of the Frisians fought their way into a promising position and slid the ball into the far corner.

This made ‘the white Kenyan’ the first goalie of the new Eredivisie season and gave Heerenveen the lead. Surprisingly, given that the preparation of coach Johnny Jansen’s team was significantly less successful than that of Willem II. However, that was not visible in the game. The Tricolores did not get a grip on the game.
Willem II did, however, come out of the dressing room well. Vangelis Pavlidis thought he was the equaliser, but his goal was disallowed for being offside. Veerman then also shot a good chance too wild in the game and a fun and open game unfolded. Both teams went for a goal and it was Heerenveen that scored that goal.
Pavel Bochniewicz, the new Polish defender of the Frisians, was the goldcrest. He headed 2-0 from close range, so the game was decided in the home side’s favour. With those three points Heerenveen will be at the head of the Eredivisie for at least an hour. Willem II know it has to improve ahead of the preliminaries to the Europa League next Wednesday, out at Progrés Niederkorn.
