The Netherlands sends anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine

The Netherlands sends anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine. In a letter to the House of Representatives, ministers Ollongren (Defence) and Hoekstra (Foreign Affairs) write that the missiles should be fired with an air and missile defense system supplied by one of the allies.

It is often not made public what military support is being given to Ukraine, but the cabinet is now doing so as a signal to Russia in light of the recent Russian attacks on Ukraine.

According to Ollongren and Hoekstra, the Netherlands is not intimidated the attacks strengthen the cabinet in the conviction that they can only be answered with unwavering support for Ukraine and its people. Ollongren told her Ukrainian colleague once again that the Netherlands is not intimidated by Russia and continues to support Ukraine.

The anti-aircraft missiles cost 15 million euros. According to Defence, the consequences of military support to Ukraine for the readiness of the Dutch armed forces remain acceptable. The cabinet says it will remain alert to this.
