The Netherlands wants to send up to 750,000 Astrazeneca vaccines to Suriname

The Netherlands is supposed to send 500,000 to 750,000 Astrazeneca vaccines to Suriname. Thats what the Ministry of Health reports on Friday. At the earliest, the coronavaccines will be delivered to Suriname at the end of June. The quantity and date depend on deliveries by AstraZeneca.

The vaccines are then available, because the Dutch groups that have to receive AstraZeneca have already been pricked with them. Vaccine surpluses are distributed by the European Union to poorer countries through the COVAX programme. But because of the special bond between the Netherlands and Suriname, the cabinet wants to make this delivery separately from Covax.

There are

less than 600,000 people in Suriname. For a full vaccination, two pricks with AstraZeneca are required.

The Netherlands also sends oxygen, medicines and medical devices to the country โ€œas soon as possibleโ€. According to the Ministry, there is now an acute need for that. Also in the next few days there will be consultations between the two countries on demand and supply. Presumably also medical personnel from the Netherlands go to Suriname

Earlier the Netherlands also supplied fans, medication and personal protective equipment.
