The Netherlands wins in Wales extremis, just like six days ago

Once again, Wales was close to a result against the Dutch team, but again things went wrong in injury time. A goal by Gareth Bale seemed to give Wales a handsome run in De Kuip, until Memphis Depay scored, just like six days ago.
National coach Louis van Gaal again opted for a number of new names compared to the game with Poland last Saturday. One of these was Vincent Janssen, who made his return to the Dutch team after five years. Cody Gakpo and Noa Lang also played, just like Teun Koopmeiners, Hans Hateboer and Tyrell Malacia.
The first chance of the Dutch team was immediately hit and Janssen was involved. After great work by Jordan Teze, Janssen gave the assist on Lang, who shot 1-0 behind goalkeeper Wayne Hennesey from outside the penalty area. Cody Gakpos 2-0 fell not long after.
The Netherlands played with many new names, but it wasn
t as rusty as in Wales. It ran a lot smoother and there was also more danger, more than in the first leg. The Welsh 2-1 therefore came reasonably out of the blue. Matthijs de Ligt played Teze in midfield, but the PSV player lost the ball. Goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen subsequently had no answer to Brennan Johnsons input. Before the break, a phase followed in which Wales might have been able to get the equalizer.

After rest, Stefan de Vrij came for Teze and Denzel Dumfries for Hateboer. In the second half, the Netherlands had a chance to throw the game in the slot. Janssen saw his shot turned by Hennesey, Steven Bergwijn shot in promising position next to and Gakpo stumbled upon a Welsh defender.
Déjà VUIn the final phase, the Netherlands was increasingly being pushed back by Wales, where Gareth Bale had meanwhile invaded. Just before time, the referee suddenly pointed to the dot after Malacia seemed to enter a duel normally, but the arbitration thought otherwise. From the dot, Bale made the 2-2.
But the Netherlands would not be the Netherlands if it did not reverse the competition in extremis. It scored almost immediately after the Welsh equalizer, exactly like six days ago in Wales. This time, Memphis was the lucky one. Due to the victory over Wales, the Netherlands is almost certain of the next round of the Nations League.
