‘The Vacuum Cleaner’ is hard verdict: ‘For now Orange is better off without De Roon’

Willy van de Kerkhof has serious doubts about the base of Marten de Roon in the Dutch team. He himself earned the nickname The Vacuum Cleaner as a player of PSV and Orange, but he does not think that the thirty-year-old midfielder is already entitled to that โ€œhonorary titleโ€.
โ€œI see โ€œvacuum cleanerโ€ as an honorary title and you have to earn it first. At the moment I think De Roon hasnt done that yet,โ€ says Van de Kerkhof to De Cceit. โ€œA real vacuum cleaner is a player who puts the trainer with the goalkeeper first on the setup form. That makes the whole team work better and is indispensable, like NGolo Kantรฉ at France. De Roon doesnt have that status at all with Orange.โ€
National coach Frank de Boer has repeatedly emphasized how important De Roon is in his eyes. The player of Atalanta Bergamo also announced that all criticism was tired of. Yet Van de Kerkhof sees an important pain point. โ€œIt
s not just about winning duels or taking balls away, but then you have to play the balls to the right color. De Roon didnt do that well in the past races.โ€
The PSV icon would certainly choose a โ€œfootball midfielderโ€ for the defense in a 5-3-2 system. โ€œI would much rather see Frenkie de Jong or Ryan Gravenberch in that place. In matches against stronger opponents, you could choose a type like De Roon for the defense, but for now the Orange is better off without it.โ€
