Dominic Thiem has started well at the ATP Finals in London. In a repeat of last years final, the Austrian title holder defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas with 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3.
The two turned it into a beautiful fight and impressed especially with their great backhands. They also served strong. Later tonight, Rafael Nadal and Andrei Rublev will play the other duel in the group.
Tsitsipas survived in the first set three break-chances, but lost in the tiebreak from 3-5 four points in a row. In the second set on 1-1, the Greek immediately punished Thiems first weak storage game and that also gave him the set.
Thiem then took a break, hit one winner after the other and ran fast to 3-0.
Djokovic plays Monday
