In the Netherlands, the war was already over in May, but it wasn’t until 2 September 1945 that the Second World War officially ended. The Japanese surrendered. In the port of Tokyo world leaders gathered to sign the peace.
The Second World War lasted six years and more than 50 million people lost their lives.
Because the war ended 75 years ago, we paid extra attention to this period last year. On a special site you could read news items about the war and the liberation of the Netherlands. In the video above you can see some important events from this period.
