Three badly injured by knife attack in German high-speed train

In Germany, a man in a high-speed train injured three people with a knife. This happened in the ICE, between Regensburg and Nürnberg in the south-east of the country. The suspected perpetrator has been arrested.

The victims are three men aged 26, 39 and 60 years old. They are badly injured, but would not be in danger of life. They come from Regensburg and the region around Passau, near the border with Austria.

It is assumed that the perpetrator acted alone. The suspect is a 27-year-old Syrian, reports the German news agency DPA. Bild newspaper reports that he had mental health problems. There are also reports that the man has called for help.

Interior Minister Seehofer spoke of a terrible attack. According to him, the motive of the perpetrator is not yet clear.

300 passengers

The report arrived at the German police around 9am. The train was stopped halfway between the two cities and the train traffic between Regensburg and Nürnberg was shut down.

There were about 300 passengers on the train. They were taken care of elsewhere. Special units of the German police were quickly on the scene. They were on their way to Regensburg to be deployed there at a football game.
