Three deaths and dozens of forest fires injured in South Turkey

Three people died in Turkeys province of Antalya and dozens injured in forest fires. There are 58 more people in the hospital, writes the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah. The fires broke out in several places yesterday in a forest in the city of Manavgat, about 75 kilometres from the tourist attraction Antalya. Two hotels in Marmaris and Bodrum have also been evacuated as a precaution.

Several houses have been laid in ashes:

The area is facing a heatwave and there is a lot of wind. This allowed the fire to spread quickly. The fire brigade suspects the fires have been lit. Eighteen villages in the area had to be evacuated due to smoke nuisance and villages had to be evacuated in neighbouring provinces as well.

According to the Turkish Minister of Agriculture, the fire is largely under control. He says there were 41 forest fires in total, ten of which now have to be controlled.
