Timber explains Ajax choice: ‘New energy, lots of quality’

Jurriën Timber made the choice to stay at Ajax in his own words with the head and heart. The 21-year-old defender signed a contract until mid-2025 on Thursday.
For the drawing moment in the Johan Cruijff Arena, Timber was accompanied by his loved ones. We can take a moment to reflect on this moment. The people I still work hard with every day to become a better football player and a better person, they are there today, he tells Ajax TV.
Timber was frequently associated with a transfer this summer. Erik ten Hags Manchester United in particular was after him. The feeling has been the deciding factor, says the Dutch international. But we also stand by the plan we have made. It was a hectic summer and it wasnt always easy. Deciding something like that on your own isnt easy either. Thats why I needed the people around me, people within the club but especially my family.
Timber notices that his status within Ajax is growing. You get a different role within the team. That was the case last season and now again. I also want to get better myself, keep growing and getting prizes. Im not that young talent I used to be. That changes and I have to go along with that myself.
Timber is heading into the season with confidence. According to the man, there is a breath of fresh air in Amsterdam due to the arrival of trainer Alfred Schreuder and the necessary player changes. Yes, you feel new energy. A lot of quality has been added. By the way, the adjustment is very fast. That
s also part of good football players, but its nice to see.
