Tomorrow thin layer of snow across the Netherlands, code yellow for smoothness

Tomorrow the whole country will be covered under a thin layer of snow. From the weather models it appears that tomorrow afternoon winter precipitation will move over the Netherlands for a short period of time. The snow will not lie long.

It wont be a thick pack of snow either. In Zeeland and the south of Limburg, 4 to 5 centimeters of snow will fall, in the rest of the country 2 to 3 centimeters. The first rainfall arrives in the west of the country around 1:00 p.m.

On Sunday, the layer of snow disappears in a large part of the country. The mercury rises to about 5 degrees and there is a risk of freezing. In the northeast, the snow may remain.

Code yellow

The KNMI has issued a weather warning (code yellow) due to the expected snowfall due to smoothness on the road. The weather institute also fears that the freezing rain will provide slippery roads on Sundays.

Rijkswaterstaat says it is ready with 1200 employees, scatters, snow shovers and a stock of more than 200 million kilos of road salt to keep the roads passable.

Europa colours white

Last week, the first snow of the year fell in the south of Limburg, to a local 10 centimetres. The landscape in more parts of Europe has been covered under a white coating in recent days. In the Madrid region, with 25 to 40 centimeters of snow, even most of the snow fell in 50 years.

In the Swiss Alps, an avalanche warning has been issued today because of the heavy snowfall. On the Austrian side of the mountain range, roads are closed and thousands of households are without electricity.
