Donald Trump has offered North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a lift in the Air Force One. This happened according to a new BBC documentary after their summit in Vietnam.
The men had talked about the North Korean nuclear program in Hanoi in 2019. The summit did not lead to a breakthrough, but did lead to a remarkable offer from Trump. He allegedly offered to fly the dictator home in his presidential aircraft.
Trump knew Kim had to take a long train trip to get to the top. “The president said, “I can take you home in two hours.” Kim refused,” said former top employee Matthew Pottinger of the National Security Council to British broadcasting.
The President of the time would have surprised even the most experienced diplomats with that offer. If Kim had accepted, the dictator and his associates would have seen Air Force One inside. Also, the aircraft with Trump might have had to fly into North Korean airspace. That would have led to all kinds of security problems.
