The Israeli police are manhunting six prisoners who escaped from a heavily secured prison in the north of the country on Sunday and Monday. The six dug a tunnel under a sink in a Gilboa prison cell, near Lake Galilee. Images show that it was a tight tunnel. It ran under the wall.
The six are very dangerous. They were serving lifelong prison sentences for attacks on Israelis. One of the fugitives is a former commander of the Al-Aqsa martyr brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Fatah movement.
The police immediately set up a major search in collaboration with the military. In addition, dogs and helicopters are deployed and checkpoints are set up in the area. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called the escape a “serious incident.”
