Two women arrested after returning from Syria

Two women aged 27 and 30 from The Hague were arrested at Schiphol on Tuesday evening. They stayed in Syria in recent years and, according to the Public Prosecutor‘s Office, were part of a terrorist organisation. At least they’ll be stuck for the next two weeks.

The wife of 27, according to the State‘s office, travelled to Syria after the Paris attacks in 2015 to join the Islamic State. The 30-year-old woman probably left for Syria a year earlier.

The D.A. reports that both were in a camp in Northeast Syria and have recently travelled through Iraq to Turkey on their own. There they reported to a Dutch diplomatic post. They didn’t have any kids with them.

On the plane to the Netherlands they were accompanied by marechaussees.
