‘UEFA shares plans with unions: players will be released one week before World Cup’

Players who are allowed to compete for their country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be released by their clubs only one week before the start of the global tournament. That‘s what L’ร‰quipe reports Tuesday night. The French medium has a document sent by UEFA to the 55 member unions last July.
This document states that players will not need to be made available until November 14th. This while the World Cup will take place from November 21st and will last until December 18th at the latest. The final round of national competitions will take place the weekend before the start of the World Cup.
This means there is virtually no preparation time for national teams. Normally, a national coach has his desired selection a few weeks in advance prior to the global tournament. However, as this World Cup will be held in winter, there is no room for this in the schedule.
