The Spaniard Albert Riera was presented as the new head coach of Olimpija Ljubljana from Slovenia on Monday, but that didn‘t quite work out. During his press presentation, Liverpool’s former player was chased away by his own ultras.
Olimpija supporters are upset because Slovenian leadership broke with beloved Robert Prosinecki last week. He made the club leadership for “liars.” Riera seems to have already dazzled it and couldn‘t even finish his own press presentation. Ulras entered the press room and sent the former player away from Liverpool. It is still unclear whether they have anything against Riera.
Riera (40) has played in his career for Bordeaux, Espanyol, Manchester City, Liverpool, Olympiakos and Galatasaray, among others. At the latter club, he was an assistant trainer. Olimpija gave Riera the chance to stand on his own two feet for the first time, but due to the action of the ultras, it’s just waiting to see how things go forward. In three days, Olimpija will play in the first conference league qualifying round against FC Differdange 03 from Luxembourg, the club that once eliminated FC Utrecht in Europe.
