Sweden and Ukraine need an extension to reach a winner in the last eighth final of this European Championship. For the Swedes, it‘s going to be a hell of a job: Marcus Danielson has to clear the field with a red card in minute 110, after a hard tackle on Artem Besyedin.
You see Besyedin’s leg bending. The Swede initially gets yellow from referee Daniele Orsato, but it is called to the side by the VAR. After a glance at the screen, the Italian arbitrator knows enough: red.
Opinions are divided on social media. Pierre van Hooijdonk and Gary Lineker don‘t think it’s a red card.
When you kick a football it‘s almost impossible not to follow through (not that kind of follow through btw). Just because a player gets injured because someone kicked a football and accidentally catches him on the follow through doesn’t make it a foul, let alone a red.

This is not a red card, no intention at all, and just kicking a ball away under pressure!!! #SWEUKR, Calvin Philips over the ball tackle on Kroos was intentionally, and a red card but not given by ref and VAR #ENGGER
