Unique in Madrid: Club Brugge stands up against Atlético again and is through CL

A wonderful performance by Club Brugge: the Belgian champion will spend the winter in the Champions League. On a visit to Atlético Madrid, Club Brugge managed to pull a nice tie out of the fire, which means that the team will also play in the billion-dollar ball next year.
After the first three games, Club still had the full score in the Champions League. That while Carl Hoefkens team is in a pool with Atlético, FC Porto and Bayer Leverkusen. The Belgians had a clear mission for their second encounter with Atlético: they had enough to spend the winter in a tie.
However, visitors did not have an easy time in the native Wanda Metropolitano. Atléti got off to an aggressive start, even though both teams managed to find opportunities. At first, the Madriles thought they were getting the lead, but that hit was rejected due to offside play. Just before the break, the players of Club Brugge were ecstatic. That
s when Danny Makkelie gave a penalty. However, VAR Dennis Higler rightly drew a line because of the penalty.

In the second half, Atlético had a harder time, but Easkelie managed to anger the players of Club Brugge again. The Dutchman gave Kamal Sowah a second card after shooting the ball, forcing the visitors to cross the line with ten men. That finally worked: it stayed 0-0.

Thats awkward 🤦‍♂️ A second yellow card for Kamal Sowah for shooting the ball 👋 #ZiggoSport #UCL #ATMBRU pic.twitter.com/cmdPnBujif

As a result, Club Brugge is already sure of the eighth final of the Champions League after four duels. This is unique, as the champion has invariably stranded in the group phase of the billion-dollar ball in recent years.
