Jorrit Smeets is about to trade Fortuna Sittard for Almere City. Fortuna doesn‘t want to lose him, but is working on a transfer because the captain himself wants to leave.
That’s what De Limburger reports. Both parties are expected to confirm the deal soon. Smeets is sold by Fortuna to the Almere, which is currently second in the Kitchen Champion Division.
Smeets has long been a permanent force at Fortuna, but has lost its base place after a positive corontest. As a result, he had to miss a number of matches and did not recoup his base spot. Smeets lacks the perspective in Limburg and therefore wants to take the step to Almere – which participates in the promotion to the Eredivisie.
Update: The departure of Jorrit Smeets is a fact. Fortuna Sittard captain goes to work at Almere City. The club from Limburg announces the departure of Smeets with a nice video.
“I can‘t wait to help Almere City FC in the fight for promotion”, responds Smeets on the club website of Almere. “Lately, Fortuna Sittard has not turned out exactly as I had hoped. Then you have to make choices in order to continue to take further steps in your career.”
