US oil pipelines shut down due to cyber attack

The largest oil pipeline company in the United States has shut down all the pipes due to a cyber attack. It has been found that the attack has affected a number of IT systems, says Colonial Pipeline in a statement.

The company doesnt give details of the attack that came to light yesterday. As a precaution, certain ICT systems have been shut down, which has led to the closure of all pipelines. Its unclear how long thats gonna take. Colonial has hired a cybersecurity company to investigate the case.

Every day, 100 million barrels of oil, diesel and other refined products pass through Colonial pipelines. It covers almost 9000 kilometres of pipelines, mainly from the Gulf of Mexico to the south and east of the US.

The company, according to its own words, transports 45 percent of the fuel in the east of the country.
