Joost van Aachen continues his career in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. The 27-year-old Dutchman trades Sheffield Wednesday for Zulte Waregem, so the clubs announce Saturday.
Van Aachen has so far remained stuck at seventeen performances in the Championship. His contract with Sheffield Wednesday expires this summer, allowing him to transfer free to Zulte Waregem. He signs a contract for two seasons in Belgium.
The left-legged central defender experienced his breakthrough at sc Heerenveen, after which Sheffield took over him for about three million euros in 2017. The English rented him last season to VfL Osnabrück, which will be released in the 2nd Bundesliga. This year Van Aachen, who also played for Ajax in the youth, was again not sure of a base place.
“The conversations I had with sports staff and the people of the club immediately gave me a good feeling,” says Van Aken about his new employer. “I look forward to starting the new season, hopefully with supporters.”
