Young Orange Federal Coach Erwin van de Looi has responded to the statements of sc Heerenveen-midfielder Joey Veerman. He announced earlier this week that for private reasons he will not be out for Jong Oranje.Van de Looi was aware of this: the coach selected Azor Matusiwa (FC Groningen), but indicated that he did so on the basis of sporting reasons. “I will tell the story from my side,” he explained to FOX Sports prior to the home duel with Young Belarus. “We would have loved to summon Joey, but he thanked himself for private reasons. Then we agreed that I would not say anything about it, that this would be up to him.”
As a result, Van de Looi stated that he had made other choices by not selecting Veerman. The 21-year-old Volendammer has already brought out why he is not part of the selection. “He thought: well, it might be more convenient to make a statement yourself. Its about private reasons: he knows them, and I know them. Then its up to him for the rest to say something about it, if he wants to.” Van de Looi emphasised that there is no distorted relationship with fellow internationals or the technical staff. “It has nothing to do with Young Orange.”
Jong Oranje started closing his EK qualification series on Sunday afternoon. Sunday at 14.30 p.m. kicked off against Young Belarus, Wednesday there will be an away match against Jong Portugal: Van de Loois team won eight of the eight previous matches.
