Rafael van der Vaart points out a minus of Frenkie de Jong. According to the analyst, the midfielder of FC Barcelona and the Dutch team are more likely to shoot target. De Jong rarely does that.
Van der Vaart calls De Jong the best player of the Dutch team, but is also critical. “I‘m a huge fan of his, but what I really miss with him is scoring and shooting. I still believe he has it, but he doesn’t think about it,” says Van der Vaart at DeccEit.
Van der Vaart shows a moment of the competition between the Netherlands and Spain. De Jong stuck in, but refused to play the ball on the free-standing Steven Berghuis. Instead, he chose something else. “He is so good, he must have seen it,” says Van der Vaart.
“Somehow he does not have the trust and form. That‘s what I expect from him, especially as Orange’s best player. Trust and form belong together. In the final phase, I see too little his.”
De Jong scored four goals for Ajax in 57 Eredivisie matches. He scored twice for Barcelona and for Orange once.
