Rick van Drongelen returned to Hamburger SV Monday night, after a knee injury held him aside for eight months. After the 1-0 defeat against citymate FC St. Pauli‘s aftertaste becomes even less for the defender: Tuesday it turns out that he has suffered a tear in his anklet in the derby.
“There is a tear in my left anklet”, Van Drongelen quoted by Algemeen Dagblad. “This will take me a few weeks,” he says disappointed. Van Drongelen came within the lines for Gideon Jung after about an hour of play. “It was nice to play again. I was allowed to warm up during the first half. The trainer told me to get warm. There was a really warm shock going through my body.”
The injury is a big disappointment for Van Drongelen, also in view of the European Championships with Jong Oranje. The defender was a fixture for his injury in the team of trainer Erwin van de Looi. The tournament starts in three weeks, on 24 March, in Hungary. “I still hope that I will be there”, keeps Van Drongelen the courage in it.
