Referee boss Dick van Egmond does not think Lisandro Martínez should have turned red against PSV. The Argentine stood on the ankle of Eran Zahavi and escaped red. According to Van Egmond, yellow is in place.
“If it is not stomping on the leg or foot, this is yellow according to the rules,” says Van Egmond at Dit was het Weekend on ESPN. “The VAR cannot intervene for a yellow card, but yellow would certainly have been in place here. We have seen it before in Álvarez, Tagliafico and Tannane this year. According to the rule, a yellow card is the maximum if it is not done with much force.”
The equalizer of Dusan Tadic is also discussed. The captain of Ajax shot the 1-1 against the ropes, although players from both Ajax and PSV walked in too early. Van Egmond points to referee Danny Eeasiie. “If the ball is shot in, the referee has to find something of it.”
“You only intervene when its great, but I still think this is acceptable. The VAR intervenes when one of the players overrun prematurely intervenes in the game if the ball does not enter.”
