Van Gaal discusses Ajax choice: They couldnt have made a better

Louis van Gaal thinks Ajax‘s choice to appoint Alfred Schreuder as a new trainer is the right one. The national coach of the Dutch team does not see who the Amsterdammers should have chosen differently.
On Thursday it became official that Schreuder will hold sway in the Johan Cruijff Arena from next season. Van Gaal understands that choice. โ€œI think it’
s a wise choice because they know him,โ€ he tells ESPN. โ€œThey‘ve seen him work and know what his personality is. He shows at Bruges that he is successful and then I don’t think you can make a better choice.โ€
Whether that means that Ajax can continue on the same foot now that Erik ten Hag goes to Manchester United, leaves Van Gaal in the middle. โ€œI know that Club Brugge is doing well and is probably going to be champion under Schreuder, that he has also proven himself as head coach at Hoffenheim and that I‘m not surprised that Ajax chooses him. If he will have the same success as Ten Hag, I don’t know. Then you have to be really good.โ€
Ajax announced Thursday that Schreuder has signed a contract for two years in the Johan Cruijff Arena, with an option for another season. This means that he will leave Club Brugge, where Schreuder is now working, behind him after this season.
