Van Gaal satisfied with ‘very open boy’ at Oranje: ‘He stops a lot of balls’

Louis van Gaal sees an important point of improvement at Mark Flekken. The national coach argues that SC Freiburg goalkeeper struggles with situations where he has to intervene for his goal line.
Van Gaal brought Flekken into the selection to make a judgement on him. By now, the seventy-year-old coach has done so. โ€œI‘m more concerned with the players and Frans Hoek (the goalkeeper trainer, ed.) with the goalkeepers. But it’s a very open boy,โ€ says Van Gaal at the press conference. โ€œHe‘s really good with his feet, like I said. He also holds a lot of balls back.โ€
Flekken needs to be even better in a specific area, the Amsterdammer sees. โ€œLatvia plays with a lot of early crossings, so you’
ll have to get off your line and make choices. He has a little trouble with that.โ€
Anyone who is under the bar against Latvia on Friday night does not want to say Van Gaal. โ€œWe‘re going to see that tomorrow, I’m not going to tell it right now,โ€ he concludes.
