Van Gerwen beats Smith and rises to third place in Premier League

Michael van Gerwen recovered after his defeat on Saturday evening against Gerwyn Prince (8-4). In the twelfth round of the Premier League the title defender was too strong for the Englishman Michael Smith with 8-5

Van Gerwen had a difficult week so far. Of his last five games the Brabander lost three. Sunday evening he showed some of his old form again with an average of 102.35. In the rankings Van Gerwen rose to third place

Earlier in the evening, Gary Anderson came into action. The Scotsman beat Nathan Chisnall 8-6, taking second place in the rankings. Before the meeting Anderson had to share that position with Chisnall

The match between old acquaintances Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright was won by Price. The Welshman was the better with 6-8

The Premier League was six out of seventeen rounds underway when the competition was interrupted due to the coronavirus. We are now catching up with six consecutive rounds behind closed doors in Milton Keynes.

Sunday was the last playing round, Wednesday the league will continue again. The semi-finals and final will be played on 22 October in the O2 Arena in London. The first four on the ranking after 5 September qualify for the semi-finals.
