Van Gerwen goes for first World Matchplay final victory in four years

Michael van Gerwen will hunt for his first final victory at the World Matchplay since 2016 on Saturday

the Brabander lost the final match in 2014 and won the summer tournament in both 2015 and 2016, but after that Mighty Mike failed to reach the finals to come. One time the quarterfinals was his final station, while Van Gerwen already went down in the first and second rounds respectively in the last two years.

After his great performances last week during the Summer Series (Van Gerwen crowned himself the winner on two of the five playing nights), the triple world champion wants to take the good feeling into the World Matchplay. Van Gerwen meets Brendan Dolan in his first game on Saturday night.

Four other Dutch people

besides Van Gerwen make their appearance in Milton Keynes. Jermaine Wattimena will compete against Krzysztof Ratajski in the first round, Jeffrey de Swan hits Glen Durrant, Vincent van der Voort crosses swords with Dave Chisnall and Danny Noppert will compete with Gerwyn Price.
