Willem van Hanegem has been watching PSV vitesse with astonishment on Sunday afternoon. The number two of the Eredivisie won 3-1 of the number five, but was behind the facts for a long time: it was only after Donyell Malen, Mario Götze, Ryan Thomas and Philipp Max that the difference could be made.
Trainer Roger Schmidt had dramatically changed his basic self after the Europa League duel with Olympiakos Piraeus. With PSV it is often a kind of tombola in my opinion. Everyone has to stay fit there until the last competition match, thats why everyone gets playtime, says Van Hanegem in his column for the Algemeen Dagblad, which has already been published online on Sunday evening. “Why is a mystery to me? Is that so everyone can get fit on holiday?
De Kromme is not convinced of Schmidt and of the players he brought to Eindhoven. Philipp Max is crazy in Eindhoven. But most of all, I see someone who cant defend at all. And the rest is about the duo Rosario and Sangaré. When the latter came to PSV for millions from France, it seemed as if they were reporting to PSV: now you are going to experience something. Well, thats really easy, you know.”
Van Hanegem fears the worst for PSV, that Thursday should make up for a 4-2 backlog against Olympiakos and three days later Ajax will receive. They will want to make it very clear in Eindhoven who is the best team in the Netherlands. And I also expect it to happen. The question is how the people, who are all so sweet to Schmidt, then judge. Or is it just because of the period under Van Bommel? Van Hanegem thinks the latter is nonsense anyway. “Hes been away from the club for over a year, so that makes no sense. But Im sure it will provide the distraction you want. Cant we just judge Schmidt now that were almost in March?”
