Van Hanegem sees Schreuder proclaiming ‘nonsense’ at Ajax: ‘Barely seen’

Willem van Hanegem is critical of Ajax, after the tie against Go Ahead Eagles. De Kromme believes that trainer Alfred Schreuder spoke nonsense after the game, while not judging the odds against Napoli positively for Ajax.
Ajax was very poor against Go Ahead, so the Amsterdammers were stuck at a 1-1 draw. ‘Of course, when asked if he is nervous before the match against Napoli, Alfred Schreuder is not going to say ‘yes‘ resounding, writes Van Hanegem in his column for the Algemeen Dagblad. The former Dutch international is thus referring to Schreuder’s statements after the game.
‘Would be what, say, the trainer of Ajax who, in the run-up to an important match, himself indicates that things can go wrong against those Italians. You don’t do that, Van Hanegem continues. But Schreuder did say nonsense by saying that he was quietly waiting 2-0 against Go Ahead Eagles and certainly not Eagles 1-1. That would have been something if Eagles had had a chance to get a chance in Amsterdam. And those Amsterdam chances of 2-0, I‘ve barely seen them. ‘
Ajax played against Go Ahead with a number of other players. Not wise, says Van Hanegem. ‘That rotating, what I hear everyone about again and what Ajax does about, makes you less. See PSV under Roger Schmidt last season. It’s nonsense in the Premier League and it‘s only October. They’re all telling themselves something, now also in Amsterdam. Playing three times a week is no problem, really. Napoli‘s home, with that race football player Kvaratskhelia on the left, could well be the next disappointment for Ajax, ‘concludes Van Hanegem.
