The recently 34 years old Bart van Hintum still hopes to see that he can play in full stadiums again. The left-legged defender from Oss has extended his contract with FC Groningen for one year.
Van Hintum knows that the end of his career is approaching, although he does not want to think about that for the time being. “Of course you will think about that”, he tells the club channels of FC Groningen. “But I still feel young, so I never really thought: I‘m going to quit after this season. But it would have been a damper if your children or your family and friends could not be present at your last season. They’ve already missed a lot of games. And I must say, playing without an audience is not fun.”
The former player of TOP Oss, PEC Zwolle and Heracles Almelo has stuck to it for a year, hoping that the seats of the Euroborg will be taken again next year. Maybe by then FC Groningen will also play European football: Danny Buijs‘s team is sixth in the Eredivisie and will race in the play-offs for European football. “A few more games win and then you have that,” says Van Hintum. “And when we get into those play-offs, we’re gonna have to hit two games.”
