Van Hooijdonk is very concerned: ‘The club is in a deep crisis’

Pierre van Hooijdonk visited the Gelredome on Saturday to see his son Sydney play. The sc Heerenveen striker scored no less than three times, but father Van Hooijdonk was particularly shocked by the situation at Vitesse.
In conversation with the Algemeen Dagblad from Van Hooijdonk, who also played at Vitesse in his career, are concerns. The fact that Heerenveen managed to win the game 0-4 was more down to the home team, says Van Hooijdonk. โ€œHeerenveen wasnt even good. Vitesse gave away an awful lot of space. With some finesse, the numbers could have been much higher,โ€ says the former player.
โ€œI was really shocked on Saturday,โ€ continues Van Hooijdonk. โ€œAnd then everything I found at the GelreDome. That started upon entry. The stadium was almost empty. They could give up 10,000 spectators, but they weren
t there. And certainly not paying. All kinds of youth teams were invited. It was just poignant to see.โ€
According to the former footballer, the situation mainly has to do with one person: former technical director Johannes Spors. โ€œUnder his leadership, no contract with a strongholder has been renewed. However, many mediocre players have been brought in and so no value has been created on the field. Sports is a type that you see more in professional football. They can talk like Brugman, but in terms of content its nothing at all,โ€ says Van Hooijdonk. Vitesse is last in the Premier League after three rounds of play. The Arnhemmers did not get any points yet and have a goal balance of minus nine.
