Thanks to two goals from Sydney van Hooijdonk, NAC Breda took three points at home against FC Den Bosch. Van Hooijdonk started the match on the bench, but was forced to substitute and was the hero on the side of NAC.
Van Hooijdonk has lost his base location and therefore wants to leave. NAC trainer Maurice Steijn prefers Mario Bilate, but had to bring in Van Hooijdonk due to an injury of Bilate. A golden change, as it turns out afterwards.
Shortly after the switch, Den Bosch took the lead in the Rat Verlegh Stadium via Jizz Hornkamp. The Breda defence was surprised and Hornkamp was able to benefit. The NAC then took the initiative. Steijn‘s team was stronger and regularly created danger, but was unable to persuade the striker. Lex was closest to the equaliser just before half time
Shortly after the break NAC drew. Van Hooijdonk got the ball out of a corner suddenly in front of his feet, didn’t think about it and took it out from close range: 1-1. For Den Bosch it was then a matter of survival. The visitors were no longer dangerous and had to hope for a point. But it didn‘t come to that. NAC switched on and just before time was paid to work. Van Hooijdonk shot in a cross by Mounir El Allouchi just before time and with it gave NAC the victory: a boy’s dream.
NAC is now frontrunner of the Kitchen Champion Division and will play next week against Jong FC Utrecht.
