Verbeek clearly: ‘Forty years of having to follow KNVB agenda, no more point’

Gertjan Verbeek has no intention of ever working as a trainer in the Netherlands again. The 59-year-old coach has no point in standing in front of the group in his home country. However, Verbeek does not completely rule out a foreign adventure.
Verbeek acted as an occasional coach last week, when the region selection of Manderveen played an exhibition game with Heracles Almelo. The native Deventenaar did not like a job with the sparring partner this summer, he says to Voetbal International. โ€œThey know I dont want to go anymore. For forty years, I had to follow the agenda of the KNVB. I dont feel like it anymoreโ€, Verbeek is clear.
โ€œI have a five-year-old daughter and plenty of other hobbies. At most, Im still open to something abroad. A great adventure for the familyโ€, he continues. โ€œIndonesia, America. Be a national coach somewhere, maybe. But in the Netherlands, I no longer want a position.โ€
In the Netherlands, Verbeek was a trainer at sc Heerenveen, Feyenoord, AZ and FC Twente, among others. Last season, he started working at Almere City, but that cooperation did not go as both parties had hoped. At the end of November Verbeek was already on the street.
