Verstappen after P3 in Belgium: ‘Rain would make it a lot harder and more fun’

Steps finally gave in half a second to rival and World Cup leader Hamilton. However, the difference with number two Valtteri Bottas, the second Mercedes driver, was only 0.015. “We thought it would be really hard for us here, but when you’re so close behind Bottas. We didn’t get any closer to Mercedes this season.”

The first run of Verstappen in the final part of qualifying was not quite top notch. Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) drove him to fourth place, but the last run of the Dutchman was a lot better.

“I’m not allowed to complain””, he looked back. In front of Ziggo’s camera Verstappen pointed again to the importance of a good start Sunday. “I have to stay out of trouble there. Then maybe I can do something in the direction of Bottas.”‘

Regen could also help the Dutchman. The GP of Belgium is unpredictable as far as the weather conditions are concerned. “In any case, rain would make it a lot more difficult. And a lot more fun”, he looked forward to the race, smiling.

Chadwick Boseman

Lewis Hamilton was once again in a class of its own. The Brit looked back on a nice qualification. “Every session went better. It’s an important pole for me. I woke up this morning with the message that Chadwick Boseman had died. I was devastated”, he said about the news of the actor who became famous as the superhero Black Panther in the cartoons of Marvel.

“He has inspired a whole generation of young, coloured people. Rest softly my friend”, was Hamilton’s tribute.
