Verstappen bums about team strategy in Spain: ‘I’m not stupid’

Also, even though he knows all too well that it would not have given him the victory in the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is disappointed after his second place that his Red Bull team made him wait too long for a tire change.

“I’ve been calling for three, four laps that my tires were gone. I’m not stupid“, he says at Ziggo Sport. “They were afraid I’d end up in the crowds, but if you’re that much faster… With new tires, you’ll catch up with everyone.”

Passing Bottas at start was crucial

Space behind Mercedes headman Lewis Hamilton became Verstappen second, after passing Bottas at the start. “That was crucial. I’m very happy with second place, we clearly didn’t have Lewis’ speed.”

In two weeks time the Formula 1 season will continue with the Belgian Grand Prix and again Mercedes will be the favourite, thinks Verstappen. “They are so dominant, that’s not going to change in two weeks.”
